Hi, I’m Mateo Sáenz, and this is my Zipdev story that I’m writing from here in Bolivia.
For nearly three years, I’ve been working remotely with Zipdev, a U.S.-based company that builds remote teams across Latin America. Before that, I worked for another American firm. What started as a job has turned into a life-changing experience. It has allowed me to build a career I’m proud of, provide for my family, and stay connected to my culture and community.
I’m 32 years old and grew up in Bolivia. I learned English in school, played professional soccer, and eventually spent two years living and studying in the United States. That time in the U.S. gave me a glimpse of what many people call the American Dream. I saw how people worked, collaborated, and built their lives. I didn’t know how or when, but I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to work for a U.S. company. I just wasn’t sure how I would make that happen from Bolivia.
A few years later, I found that opportunity when I joined Zipdev as an Account Executive. That’s when everything changed. The structure, the systems, the culture — it all clicked. I wasn’t just working for an American company. I was contributing, growing, and building something real. I could finally taste the dream I had once seen from the outside. And this time, it was mine.
From day one, the experience was seamless. I went through a very thorough vetting process (conversational English, writing and reading comprehension, skills assessments, and an interview with a lead recruiter). They ensured I had the skills and then made sure I matched the culture. This is why I’ve been here for almost three years. I was onboarded quickly, integrated into the systems, and felt aligned with the team’s expectations. Zipdev gave me a clear path to succeed and the support to grow fast. I wasn’t just part of the company. I was empowered to make an impact right away.
Working remotely with a U.S. company has changed my life in more ways than I expected.
Presence with My Family I have a 9-year-old daughter. Being able to take her to school, be there for her events, and actually participate in her day-to-day life is something I don’t take for granted. If I worked for a Bolivian company, I’d be spending less time with her. Knowing I get this time with her is what motivates me each and every day.
Structure with Flexibility Remote work requires commitment, but having control over how I organize my time allows me to stay balanced and focused. I can bring energy to work and to home without feeling like I’m sacrificing either.
Investing in Our Future Because I earn in U.S. dollars, I can support my daughter’s passions such as tennis, music, and dance. I’ve also recently taken up golf. In a country where local currency doesn’t go far, that kind of financial stability creates real possibility.
And I know I’m not the only one. This kind of transformation is possible for thousands of talented professionals across Latin America. What we need are more companies willing to bet on us.
If you’re growing your team and haven’t looked toward Latin America, I encourage you to take a closer look. Here’s why:
